Professional Experience

James Carpenter’s practice focuses on patent prosecution in a variety of scientific arts.  Some of the technologies he has worked with include circuits, computer processors, liquid crystal displays, digital cameras, ink jet printers, copiers, software applications, and business methods.

Before joining Fitzpatrick, Cella, Mr. Carpenter studied and helped in the design of asynchronous processors at the University of Manchester. Mr. Carpenter also was a International Field Engineer for Schlumberger based out of Baku, Azerbaijan, having experience in the petroleum industry with directional drilling tools, measuring while drilling tools, and nuclear measurement tools. 

While in law school, Mr. Carpenter participated in the Washington College of Law’s Glushko-Samuelson Intellectual Property Law Clinic in which he worked on various patent, trademark, and copyright matters. During his final year at the law school, Mr. Carpenter wrote a paper entitled, “First-to-Invent to First-to-File, The Right Move?” detailing the proposal to change the filing system in the United States.
